Judicial Workers Protest Against Reform in Mexico City

Workers of the Judiciary of the Federation (PJF) gathered on Sunday morning at gate 6 of the Hermanos Rodríguez Racetrack to express their rejection of the judicial reform, moments before the start of the Mexican Grand Prix of Formula 1. The demonstration was met with an intense deployment from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City, which surrounded the judicial workers, generating tensions at the site.

Judge Edna Lorena Hernández denounced on social media that the police action carried out outside the venue where the motorsport event was taking place amounted to a "deprivation of their freedom by the Police of Mexico City," and stated that in the face of such state actions, "all Mexicans are defenseless."

The National Association of Circuit Judges and District Judges of the Judiciary of the Federation (Jufed) issued a statement condemning the use of force by the State, expressing that "using institutional violence against two judges who, along with jurisdictional personnel, were expressing themselves peacefully... reflects the increase of governmental intolerance."

Additionally, Jufed announced that it will seek support from international bodies to denounce "the condemnable use of state forces" against those who defend the autonomy and independence of the Judiciary.
